Dear Citizens of Vicksburg,
My name is Willis Thompson and it is with great excitement that I announce my candidacy for mayor of the City of Vicksburg.
In sharing this exciting news with you, I hope more than anything to make this clear; this will not be a campaign about me. This will be a campaign about every citizen and taxpayer in our community who desperately needs to see Vicksburg succeed. However, today in Vicksburg, much of the good happening in our community is largely being overshadowed by the bad. Under the current leadership, we have consistently seen crime increase while the city's population decreases. We have witnessed the ongoing problems of litter, blight, and a deteriorating infrastructure. We cannot expect others to invest in our city if we are not willing to do the same. The role of city government is to provide high quality services at the least cost to the taxpayers.
If elected, I will work to recruit and retain the best and brightest people to form a team that will give the citizens of Vicksburg the results they deserve. My administration will choose people over politics and will make smart decisions rather than what's politically advantageous. As mayor, I will also work to foster a spirit of unity in our community. I look forward to forming several groundbreaking partnerships between the city, the county, the education communities, the church, and business community, and all others who are committed to building a better Vicksburg. Vision is not seeing things as they are but as they can be! My goal is to create an effective plan that will focus on making Vicksburg more marketable through improving public safety, youth development, beautification, sound infrastructure, code enforcement, and effective legislation that will help to foster a business a business-friendly environment and improve the overall quality of life for our citizens.
By the grace of God and with this community's support, we can turn Vicksburg around. I'm honored and humbled to ask for your prayers, your support, and your vote.
